A new community water monitoring lab in Guildford will empower local people to test water quality in the River Wey.
Environmental charity Zero Carbon Guildford will launch its Water Rangers Community Water Lab on Saturday, April 27 from 10am to 2pm on Guildford’s High Street.
The lab will monitor rivers in the Wey catchment to ensure they are safe for otters and humans.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “The community-led lab is a first in our region and is designed to allow anyone to get answers about their local river.
“That means great ecosystems and clean enough for swimming!
“This event is a celebration of the water monitoring program's successes over the past year, so we'll review our amazing accomplishments.”
It follows a flurry of sewage releases in the River Wey over Easter and “alarmingly high” levels of E. coli in the River Thames that made several rowers sick at the University Boat Race.
